Summary
No experience necessary—understand what your clients have been investing in! Cryptocurrency, or virtual currency, is a digital representation of value currently used as a medium of exchange and investment. Because the IRS considers virtual currency to be property, the tax implications of using and investing in virtual currency are considerable. The instructor will begin with origins, abbreviations and definitions of cryptocurrency and build to current topics like nonfungible tokens (NFTs) and Strongblock.
During this training, you’ll learn about the gaps in current tax legislation and how the current laws apply. Form 1040 asks, “At any time did you receive, sell, exchange or otherwise dispose of any financial interest in any virtual currency?” With this training, you’ll understand how to answer it for your client’s situation.
This course uses a unique hybrid learning approach to teach the application of tax law to the tax return. The first two sessions will end with homework to be reviewed in the next session to reinforce your learning.
