Additions and Subtractions on Arizona Tax Returns
The preparation of an Arizona Income Tax Returns starts with the income as reported on the associated federal tax return.

However, there are several adjustments that need to be made – both additions and subtractions – before the appropriate tax rate calculations can be applied. Some of the common ones include adjustments for depreciation, municipal and US government interest, and Arizona specific credits. We will be discussing both the common, and some of the not so common, additions and subtractions used to derive the Arizona taxable income.

Many tax preparers receive training on federal tax law but don't ever receive training specific to Arizona tax returns.

Instead they are either self-taught (reading AZ DOR publications or the AZ Revised Statutes) or learn on the fly when clients mention something. This webinar will help you stay ahead of the game by identifying many of the differences between the Federal 1040 and the AZ 140 and their associated forms as it relates to:
- income (i.e. investments, retirement)
- deductions and credits (i.e. medical expenses, charitable donations, Family Income Tax Credit)
- general tax requirements (i.e. due dates, dependents)
By properly preparing an AZ income tax return, preparers can save their clients hundreds of dollars. The instruction as well as all of the materials will be in Spanish. Presented by Liliana Davalos, AFSP, CAA

As tax professionals, we know that marital status (and residency) affects filing status and that married taxpayers may choose between married filing jointly and married filing separately. However, depending on where they live (i.e. a community property state vs. a common law state), they may not have as many choices on how to split the income and expenses. Tax benefits may also be reduced if filing separately. We will go over how to determine which spouse can or must claim income and deductions, and evaluate how those options change depending on whether they live in a community property state. Objectives: • Determine whether a taxpayer is considered unmarried • Identify taxpayer's most advantageous filing status • Analyze the attribution requirements of various income sources and tax benefits • Identify tax benefits which may not be claimed or are significantly reduced as MFS. Presented by Katherine Gudgel, EA.

Objectives: • Identify which types of Form 1099 are received by taxpayers to report income on a Schedule C • Recognize the difference between a trade/business and a hobby • Identify common types of gig activities • Recognize when a Schedule C should be filed • Explain when an unincorporated business may be treated as a qualified joint venture Instruction and materials will be in Spanish.
