Alaska Commercial Fishing Basics
This class that will assist the tax professional in a fisherman's tax return. Often they are non-filers, under/over reporters, non-compliant and already in trouble with the IRS. We will show you how to report accurately and where you as the tax professional can get the information along with the resources to work with your client on a journey to filing and paying the appropriate tax while reporting accurately and completely.
We will include a brief discussion of fishing in general; tax returns for the simple 1099 crew share filers to the more complicated boat owner filers along with resources you need to complete these returns. We will review in detail the Seafoods "Account Activity Summary Reports" that summarize the fishing revenue and payments made from the processer for crew payments, gear, fuel , repairs, groceries, supplies and more. We will evaluate how to determine what are real tax deductions or simply a draw for crew share expense or payments.
