At the last VT Chapter NATP meeting in Burlington, the question was asked if CPA's could use the course for CPE credits, even if the VT chapter did not pay the fee for the credit hours.

I spoke with Aprille Morrison, of the CPA board, this was her response.

As long as the course otherwise qualifies under NASBA ( National Association of State Boards of Accountancy)

You receive a certificate of completion

You have the course outline

And she also said it is up to each licensee to prove

Good morning,

Hope all had a wonderful Christmas. I am a member of the MA/RI Board and have a client who has a vacation home in Vermont.

They are looking to rent it out and I am wondering what taxes they will be liable for on the rental income. Such as sales tax, this is not a hotel but their personal vacation home.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Chris Miarecki, E.A.

REMINDER - The government closure meant the IRS had to change the original opening date of the filing season from Jan. 21 to Jan. 31, 2014Many software companies are expected to begin accepting tax returns in January and hold those returns until the IRS systems open on Jan. 31(See IR-2013-100 for more information.)
The IRS does NOT consider returns held prior to the date that it accepts transmission of electronic returns stockpiled. This includes when the IRS is not able to accept specific returns, forms, or schedules until a date later than the start-up of IRS e-file due to constraints such as late legislation, programming issues, etc. http://www.irs.gov/uac/Submitting-the-Electronic-Return-to-the-IRS

The IRS will begin accepting 2013 business tax returns on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014. This start date applies to both electronically-filed and paper-filed returns.http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/Starting-Jan.-13-2014-Business-Tax-Filers-Can-File-2013-Returns

A new look and a new feel from the old Member-2-Member postings.

Your chapter has become the 'gold standard' for state tax education in Vermont, sponsoring Vermont Tax Symposiums twice a year (June and October).  During the NATP 1040 tax seminar in November we proudly host a lunch featuring VT Tax Commissioner Mary Peterson.

Two (2) of our board members and committee chairs serve on statewide tax advisory and technical boards.  We are YOUR voice for tax matters in Montpelier!

With tax season fast approaching, remember your Chapter discussion board can be a great resource for state and local tax issues as well as utilizing the state tax volunteers.
