IRS modernizes e-signature processes under Taxpayer First Act
The Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) has provided an update on the implementation of Section 2302 of the Taxpayer First Act (TFA), focusing on modernizing the IRS's acceptance of electronic signatures for Forms 2848 and 8821.
The interim solution, launching in January 2021, introduces the Taxpayer Digital Communications (TDC) platform, allowing tax professionals to submit digitally signed authorization forms through a secure access system. This initiative aims to streamline the authorization process while maintaining stringent security and authentication standards.
Looking ahead, the IRS plans to release the Tax Pro Account in July 2021, offering a comprehensive online platform for tax professionals and taxpayers to manage authorizations electronically. This long-term solution will further enhance efficiency and security in handling taxpayer information.
