Membership

Joining NATP gives you the resources, education and support you need to grow as a tax professional. Members gain access to trusted tools, step-by-step guidance on complex tax issues and updates on the latest tax news. Depending on your membership level, you'll receive at least 16 CPE yearly to stay compliant, practice management resources, member-only discounts and a subscription to the TAXPRO magazine.

Most importantly, you become part of a nationwide community of tax professionals who share knowledge, advocate for the profession and help each other succeed. NATP membership helps you stay current, save time, serve clients with confidence and advance your career.

Your membership expires at the end of your "join" month each year. You can view your membership information in your account.

  2. Under Saved Payment Methods, add a payment method if you don’t already have one on file
  3. Under Membership Renewal, select Edit Auto-Renewal

Benefits

All NATP members receive a free listing in the Find a Tax Pro directory. You control whether your profile is public or private. If you make it public, potential clients can see your work history, business information, contact details and specialties. You can edit and manage your listing anytime in your member dashboard's Directory Profile Management section.

NATP members have a few options for state-specific support. You can search the directory for fellow members who volunteer as state tax resources, or opt in to be listed yourself. You also have access to NATP chapters, where you can connect with local tax professionals who understand your state’s unique tax laws and practices.

Most tax professionals choose the Professional membership because it provides the best value and the widest range of benefits. With this level, you’ll receive all our tax news and updates, including TAXPRO Weekly and TAXPRO magazine, over 16 CPE each year and a 25% discount on NATP education.

We also offer other membership options that may fit depending on your career stage, but if you’re actively working with clients and want the tools, education and community support to grow your practice, the Professional membership is our most popular and comprehensive choice.

Running a successful tax office is more than keeping up with tax law changes. You also look for ways to expand services, cut costs and work more efficiently. Our benefit webinars are designed to help with all of that.

Throughout the year, we host webinars on practice management and business-building topics and select tax updates to help you meet your annual CPE requirements. These webinars are included with all levels of membership.

Six times a year, TAXPRO magazine includes an optional exam based on the issue’s content. Professional and Premium level members can complete these exams to earn 1 CPE for each. It’s an easy way to stay current on important topics while working toward your annual CPE requirements.

We acknowledge that tax professionals vary greatly in their experience and in the type of tax returns that they prepare. We classify sessions according to the following guidelines.

Basic

A basic level is most beneficial to individuals new to a skill. These programs may also benefit a seasoned professional with limited exposure to the subject area.

Intermediate

An intermediate level builds on a basic program and is most appropriate for individuals with detailed knowledge in a particular topic.

Advanced

An advanced level is most useful for individuals with mastery of the particular topic. This level focuses on the development of in-depth knowledge.

Update

An update level gives a general review of new developments. This level is for individuals with a background in the subject area who desire to keep current.

Overview

An overview level provides a general review of a subject area from a broad perspective.

We understand! We work hard to be accurate at the time of printing, but the IRS is constantly issuing new guidance. Please start by checking our addendum page. If you don’t see one addressing your concern, don't hesitate to contact us.

CPE Reporting

It depends on the sponsoring organization’s requirements.

For courses completed during the first three quarters of the calendar year (January through September), CPE providers are required to submit CPE to the IRS once a quarter. NATP makes every effort to submit more frequently than is required, typically monthly, during this time.

For courses completed during the fourth quarter of the calendar year (October through December), CPE providers are required to submit CPE to the IRS within 10 business days of completion.

More information can be found at the CPE Sponsor Information page.

A blank status indicates your CPE is still being processed, the course wasn’t CPE-eligible, or it was completed through an NATP chapter that handles its own CPE reporting.

This means we attempted to report your CPE to the appropriate sponsoring organization, but it was not accepted. This usually happens when there’s a name or PTIN mismatch between what we have on file and what was provided to the sponsoring organization. To change your name, please contact our Member Services team. To verify or update your PTIN, visit your Account Management page.

Your CPE has been successfully reported to the sponsoring organization. You can rest assured that your credits have been accepted.

“Self-Reported” indicates you entered this course manually because it was not an NATP course. You can use this feature to track CPE you’ve earned through other education providers and monitor your overall progress toward your education goals.
