Created by Blue J and CPA.com, the 2026 AI Tax Research Solution Outlook Report explores how accounting firms are shifting from trying AI to relying on it—and what this means for the future of the profession. This year’s report reveals an unexpected effect of increased AI adoption: more focus on the uniquely human experiences and skills AI can’t replace. From deepening client relationships to prioritizing practitioner judgment, AI-driven efficiencies are helping firms to better serve both clients and staff.

The Outlook Report features fresh insights from a survey of 1,000 US-based accountants, including:

  • Time savings: 84% cite time saved as a key benefit of AI-powered tax research
  • Better client experiences: 50% say they’re redirecting AI-driven time savings toward faster client responses and project timelines
  • More room for professional judgment: 77% say AI gives them the headspace to exercise their judgment
