NATP Continues Support of the Taxpayer First Act
On the behalf of its members, NATP submitted a letter of support of the
Taxpayer First Act 2019 to both the members of the House Committee on Ways & Means as well as members of the Senate Committee on Finance.
In the letter, NATP stated, "We applaud your efforts to improve the administrative practices at the Internal Revenue Service and taking on the long overdue challenge of reforming the IRS so that it is better equipped to serve the tax professional and their taxpayer clients."
While not included in this Act, NATP specifically noted its support of legislation that would build greater due diligence consistency across all categories of tax preparation; among them would be paid preparers, tax software, artificial intelligence tools and VITA, for example. It is the position of the association that the term
paid preparer needs better definition and awareness that it extends beyond the traditional tax professional.
