Helping Clients Plan for Higher Education – Part II Webinar
Summary
In this second part of our two-part series on education credits, we will discuss how to manage more of the unusual situations that taxpayers may encounter. This includes how to repay the credit when some or all the qualifying education expenses are refunded after the credit has been taken, how to handle education assistance from employers, and the impact of taxing scholarships and distributions from qualified tuition plans (QTPs). Additionally, we will walk through scenarios where you might want to make scholarships or 529 plan distributions taxable to maximize the AOTC.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Calculate the repayment of an education credit
- Summarize the impact of taxing scholarships
- Determine the taxable portion of a QTP (§529 plan) distribution
