Determining Qualifying Dependents Webinar

The rules to determine if an individual is a qualifying child or a qualifying relative dependent can be complex and sometimes confusing. This can especially cause tax preparers angst when clients are separated, divorced or have another family dynamic. This webinar will discuss different family situations and which taxpayer is eligible to claim the child or relative in that situation, as well as the credits attached to the dependent.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify the custodial vs. noncustodial parent
  • Apply the five tests of a qualifying child
  • Determine whether a child is a qualifying child or qualifying relative
  • Describe when the CTC, ODC or ACTC is allowable
