This course will examine specialized situations involving capital gains and losses. A brief overview of definitions, holding periods, and cost basis will be followed by an in-depth exploration of issues facing investors. Topics include the tax consequences of buying and selling investment companies, equity options, futures, and making short sales. The complex tax treatment of Small Business Stock, Incentive Stock Options, and the sale of depreciable property will be reduced to simple methodology while various tax minimization strategies will be presented. Day 1: Death and Taxes- 4 CPE Credits

Find out what's due and when, whether it be the estate, gift, inheritance, generation skipping, and/or income tax. Learn which forms to use, how to account for income and expenses in respect of decedent, which elections are available to executors and trustees, and how to maximize allowable deductions. This class will provide a timeline and concise instructions to simplify filing of all requisite returns. Day 2: Taxpayers in Financial Distress- 8 CPE Credits
- Course Level: Intermediate
Recession, Depression, Inflation, Stagflation... whatever the economy, many of your clients are in financial distress, which often leads to Bankruptcy, Foreclosures, Repossessions, and Cancellation of Debt. This all-day seminar will guide you through the tax implications of each of these hardships, and is a must-attend session for every tax pro. Remember to bring your pencils, as there will be hands-on case studies included.
