NATP Chapters are actively doing much to increase the professionalism, education level and camaraderie of NATP members. Chapters have a great variety of educational opportunities regarding state tax issues and tax practice management. This ranges from informal round table discussions to formal seminars and speakers from the state taxation departments and others. Legislative committees in the Chapters are monitoring legislation that affects the tax preparation business. They make contact with the tax writing committees and the state taxation administrators on behalf of their members. The Chapter's annual meeting is an opportunity for you to get acquainted with other tax preparers in your state, build a peer network, make new friends as well as have an enjoyable experience. The Chapter is an excellent opportunity for you to get involved with tax issues at the state level. NATP membership includes Chapter affiliation. By participating on the Chapter level, you can make a difference. Contact the National Office regarding Chapters or to receive assistance in forming a Chapter. Chapter Advisory CouncilAs an outgrowth of a recommendation made at the Presidents' meeting held in St Louis in October 2001 and ratified by attendees of the Presidents' meeting held in Las Vegas in August 2002, a permanent Chapter Advisory Council (CAC) has been established. The CAC's primary function is to improve communications between the chapters, National Board of Directors and the National staff. It will not replace communications with National on an individual chapter basis. The CAC has multiple goals: To provide a forum for Chapters to address issues and concerns; To be the liaison between Chapters, National Board and National staff; To develop recommendations for the National Board of Directors; To receive recommendations from the National Board of Directors. The CAC is responsible for setting the agenda and discussion topics at the Presidents' meeting at NATP's National Conference. We encourage all chapters to send representatives to this meeting and the Leadership Forum also held at conference. Currently, seven chapter leaders serve on the council. They are Darrel Shinn (VA) serving as Chairman, Jim Glorioso (WI) serving as Treasurer, Karen Coombes (TX) serving as Secretary, John Johannesen (IA), Les Marti (IL), Peggy Beasterfeld (KS), and Ken Dowdall (FL). CAC operations are funded by a cost-sharing fee billed to each chapter based on their membership headcount. This is intended to cover costs such as postage, copying and meeting expenses. CAC members do not receive monetary compensation. Currently all of NATP's 35 chapters participate in the CAC program. The CAC anticipates many opportunities for helping each other strengthen our chapters and provide exceptional service our members. All contents copyright 2008.
