    This course is designed to help tax professionals who are beginning their careers in tax preparation. It will focus primarily on individual income tax issues and the preparation of Schedule D (Form 1040). Some topics will be discussed more in-depth in an effort to clarify issues related to those select topics.

    Objectives

      Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

      • Identify what types of sales get reported on the Schedule D.
      • Identify the basis of property.
      • Determine if the gain or loss is short-term or long-term.
      • Identify situations where a loss would not be allowed.
      • Understand how capital losses offset capital gains.
      • Understand the different capital gains rates.
