    This seminar is presents a concept unique to trusts and estates: distributable net income (DNI). An understanding of DNI is vital to ensure that trust or estate income is only taxed once, and the trust or estate's taxable (and tax-exempt) income is properly allocated between the fiduciary and its beneficiaries.

    Objectives

    Upon completion of this seminar, the tax professional will be able to:

    • Recognize which types of income are, and are not, included in DNI.
    • Ensure no deductions are lost.
    • Compute DNI for simple trusts, complex trusts, and estates.
    • Determine distribution deductions.
    • Determine the character of amounts distributed to beneficiaries.
