2014 PTIN Renewal Update - 11.6.2013
The IRS is currently processing preparer tax identification number (PTIN) applications and renewals for 2014. Anyone who prepares or assists in preparing federal tax returns for compensation must have a valid 2014 PTIN before preparing returns. All enrolled agents must also have a PTIN. All PTINs expire on December 31 and must be renewed annually. The renewal fee is $63 and can be renewed at irs.gov/ptin.
Warning: Due to system capacity restrictions, some people are experiencing issues when trying to renew their PTIN. The IRS suggests accessing the system during off-peak hours. Peak is 1 pm to 4 pm ET.
