Summary
This course is designed to help tax professionals gain basic knowledge and an understanding of Schedule D (Form 1040) for individual taxpayers. It will cover the sale of stock and mutual funds, including how such sales are reported on Schedule D. In addition, it will discuss the tax treatment of capital gains and losses.

Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:  

  • Identify sales that are reported on Schedule D.
  • Calculate the adjusted basis of capital assets.
  • Determine if the asset's holding period is short-term or long-term.
  • Explain the tax treatment of capital losses.
  • Apply the appropriate tax rates to capital gains.
