How is the Self-Study with Facilitator Course different from Self-Study?
With a self-study course, you’re on your own. You study the textbook and any other course materials and take the exam when you’re ready. For some people, this is the perfect way to study. With a self-study with facilitator course, you might still study by yourself, but you’re not alone. You have an expert facilitator guiding your study and other classmates who are studying the same material. During the discussion period for the course, the facilitator will ask questions to help you learn and be there for any questions you have. You and your classmates can share what you’ve learned during your studies or in your practice. Once the discussion period is over, you’ll be able to take the exam with confidence.
How long does it take to read through the material?
Each course textbook varies. Consult the Table of Contents on the registration page to view the number of pages in the textbook as well as the topics to help you make this determination. For self-study with facilitator courses, it’s a good idea to be familiar with the material before the discussion period begins, but is not required.
The discussion period for the self-study with facilitator course I want to take is 2 weeks long, do I have to read the entire book in that time and take the exam?
No, you have one year to read the book and pass the exam to receive CPE; however, the facilitators will only be posting on the discussion board for that time period.
Do I have to participate in the discussion board a certain number of times to earn CPE?
No, but we recommend that you ask and answer questions as much as possible to get the most value out of the course. Thinking about questions and writing answers will help you learn the material so you get the most out of the course.
How do I earn CPE?
If CPE is offered for a course, in order to earn it, you must take the exam and pass with 70% or higher.
How many questions are on the test?
5 questions per credit.
Must I take the test in one sitting?
Yes. We do provide a PDF of the exam questions so, if you prefer, you can take it on paper and then use it as you go through the exam online.
Will I be alerted to updates as a result of tax law changes that take place this year yet?
Addendums are only created for books to correct original copy. To stay up-to-date on the ever-changing tax laws, be sure to read the TAXPRO Weekly and TAXPRO Monthly.
How long do I have access to the materials?
You will have access to the discussion boards and textbook for one year following the close of the discussion period. We recommend you download the textbook and any other course materials to your computer for permanent access.
