Do I need any special software to use the Tax Education Center (TEC)?
You can access the TEC from any recent web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) If you commonly use the Internet, it is likely that you won’t need to download any other software. However, if you don’t have them already, you may want to install the free Adobe Flash player (the most recent version works best) as well as a free copy of Adobe Reader. As with most Internet applications, a faster Internet connection means faster response times, and a slow connection may cause time-out issues.
The TEC will send automated messages regarding purchased courses, course completions or course changes. Please be sure to add email@example.com to your list of safe addresses so you don’t miss these important updates.
Can I take courses on my mobile device?
The Tax Education Center works well on most mobile devices. Just access it through a web browser as you would on a computer. You can do many things from your mobile device, including:
- Accessing a textbook
- Taking an exam
- Finding the address for your workshop venue
However, some course components, like electronic flashcards and simulations, may not work on a mobile device. In addition, our webinar platform, Citrix GoToMeeting, doesn’t have a fully functioning mobile interface, so if you’re participating in live webinars, you’ll want to use a laptop or desktop computer. On-demand webinars can be viewed on a mobile device.
Please remember that mobile devices all work a little differently, and if you call with a technical issue about a course you’re viewing with a mobile device, we can only offer limited assistance. Your best bet is to try it on your computer to see if you have the same issue. If you are, give us a call and we’ll see what we can do to help . If not, you’ll know that your mobile device might not be the best option for this course.
Why do I have access to two exams for the on-demand webinar I enrolled in?
Two exams are available because Certified Financial Planners (CFP®) are required to complete double the amount of exam questions to receive CPE credit. The exams must be separate courses in order to assign CPE credit and award certificates correctly. You do not need to take both exams, but be sure to take the CFP version if you hold that designation.
Why must I complete the exam online?
Completing the exam online eliminates correcting it manually, reducing possible correction errors. In addition, taking the exam online allows you to see your score right away. If you pass, you can access and print a certificate immediately.
Can I still access a paper copy of the exam?
A copy of the exam can be found under Resources for the course in the Tax Education Center for all self-study courses. The PDF copy is available for study purposes only. You must complete the exam online.
What are pop-ups?
Pop-ups are windows that open on top of a web page. Some pop-ups associated with web pages may be advertisements, inappropriate content or even malicious code that can negatively affect computers, so many people have pop-up blockers installed on their computers. However, pop-ups aren’t always bad and can be useful. Many web sites use pop-ups for things like forms or user help. The system we use for the TEC uses pop-ups, so you may have to enable pop-ups to use the TEC.
How do I enable pop-ups?
The easiest way to bypass a pop-up blocker is to also hold Ctrl + Alt while clicking a link. This only works temporarily and may not work for every pop-up.
To enable pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
If you receive a message notifying you of a pop-up, choose the option to Always Allow Pop-ups for the site or do the following:
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Click the Tools menu, click Pop-up Blocker and then click Pop-up Blocker Settings.
- In the Address of website to allow box, type the address for the TEC, natptax.absorbtraining.com, and then click Add.
This will only allow pop-ups for this site and won’t affect any other settings you have for pop-ups. You can also hold Ctrl + Alt while clicking a link to bypass the pop-up blocker. This
third-party site offers instructions for different web browsers. If you have other pop-up blocker software installed, please refer to your software’s help or user manual to allow pop-ups for the TEC.
